Drawing on a range of historical, literary, and iconographic sources, this session will trace a journey through the history of public lighting in Lisbon, particularly between the eighteenth century (when it was first installed) and the nineteenth century. Along the way, it will also reflect on the consequences of public lighting and the ways in which it transformed and shaped how the city was seen and experienced.
