
Jess Reia is currently appointed as Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill University, working on a research project about nightlife governance and cultural policy in the Americas. They hold a Ph.D. and an MA in Communication Studies (UFRJ), and a BA in Public Policy (USP). Prior to working at McGill, Reia was a lecturer and project manager at the Center for Technology and Society at FGV Law School from 2011 to 2019. Former visiting researcher at the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada (2015–2016). Reia is the BMO Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Montreal (CIRM), responsible for the project “Smartness after Dark: Understanding Nightlife Governance and Urban Intelligence in Montreal.” Reia is a night councillor at the Conseil de Nuit de MTL 24/24 (2020–2022), participating in the Nocturnal Lifestyle committee and activities promoted by the city of Montreal.
